Preliminarry Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

The Simple denotation of this image is a picture of a girl doing revision. Main image is a girl looking down at her book she looks stressed, It shows that she isn’t happy to be doing so much revision. The props used in the image give off the impression that it is a lot of work which she has to get through in a short period of time. The masthead is ‘Forth6’ uses both words and a number this can tell us that the girl in the image is on her forth 30 minutes, as 6 means 30 minutes of a hour on a clock, and therefor it can be testing times because it is long to stay focused for a long time. The dateline is Series one showing this is the first series of the college magazine.

The use of little speech bubbles and star notes are used for teenagers to recognised because they are coloured but also used because this is a way that some teenagers choose to revise and remember things. The use of books shows us that it is educational college magazine that it is showing its audience what happens if work is done at the last minute. The main cover line is Testing times and this tells us what the magazine is about showing that revising is testing times. There is a Coverline at the bottom and we can tell by the use of spelling ‘2’ instead of the word 'two' showing she is using text chat and so it would appeal to teenagers because they are people who tend to write like that and also teenagers are people who tend to be in education. There is one slice of toast with one bite taken out of it which expresses to us that she has no time to eat because the work is too much. She looks as though she is in an old building by looking at the way the wallpaper is tearing off, this could express that she has been doing the work so long that the buildings falling apart. There is a website link on the left and this is common on most magazines because most of them now have there own websites.

The bright colours used show that it could be exaggerated a little because work load doesn’t tend to get as intense as the picture represents, but the background is dark and shadowed showing that there is a dull side to doing revision the light is mainly focused around the girl and shadowed around the outside because this can tell us that the girl is looking for a bright future due to doing revision and also the reader eyes are target to her. The contrast of this portrays that doing revision can be long and hard work but on the other hand in the end good results/grades will come of it. In conclusion this magazine cover is mainly aimed at teenagers and people who are still in education and that may be having exams soon and need to revise.

This magazine has no barcode and this can tell us that the magazine is not going to be sold in shops but given out free.

Induction: Re-Creation Of A Movie Magazine Front Cover

This is my first task for media studies, i have used photoshop in the past but had forgotten how to do some of the basics. Ordering the layers so that i was able to edit and rub out text caused a slight problem. Overall most of the things were not to much of a problem because it was mainly adding text just by clicking the text tool then puting the text box where you need it. Some of the layout was hard to organise such as tucking the writing behind the head of the man, also some of the text clashed and so i would learn from this for future products. The colouring of the text was good but the style of each type of text may have been slightly off due to the fact the photoshop texts was the only type avaliable in future i may use 'www.dafont.com' which would give me a wider selection of texts.
